Gmail's decision to delete some accounts
Gmail authorities have decided to delete some unused accounts. Google has also warned users about this. The rules that were in force till now, the deadline has been changed from 2023. Google issued a warning about this in May.
It is said that if a person
has a Gmail account, but if he has not used that account for more than two
years, then Google authorities will delete those accounts. The company has
announced an amendment to its policy regarding availability of inactive
accounts. Users are advised to log into their Gmail account at least once every
24 months. Google also advised everyone to check their old Google accounts.
Google previously had a rule that data from accounts that had not been used for
two years could be completely deleted, but that rule has now been changed.
A recent statement from Google
said, “To reduce data risk, we are extending the Google Account inactivity
period for two years across all our products. By the end of this year (2023),
Google can delete an account and all its data, including Google Workspace
(Gmail, Docs, Drive, Meet, Calendar), YouTube, and Google Photos. If they have
not been used or signed in for at least two years, they will be completely
deleted.”

The new policy will not come
into effect until December 2023. This means that users who are not active in
Gmail still have time to restore their old account. Users are advised to
restore previous login information or put the process on hold until more
information is available on the deletion method. Note that deleted Gmail
accounts cannot be recovered.
Google tracks account activity
based on a variety of behaviors, including using Google Drive, watching YouTube
videos, installing apps from the Google Play Store, searching, or signing in to
Google for any apps or services. All of them may stop working. After the new
policy goes into effect, Google will start focusing on accounts that were
opened, but never used again. To avoid outright termination of inactive Google
Accounts, users must keep updated on Google's changing policies and take
appropriate action.
