Now mobile phones can be used in airplanes

The general rule is not to use mobile phones while on the plane. As a result, the smart device has to be kept in airplane mode. But in the near future there will be no such limitation. The European Union (EU) is going to allow the use of mobile phones while boarding the plane. As a result, passengers can make phone calls and use the Internet, even from midair.

By June 2023, member states have an obligation to roll out 5G technology, mobile networks in their respective countries. This is what was reported in news published by the British media BBC on Saturday, citing the EU.

It said the EU has directed airlines to provide passengers with 5G networks and slower mobile data on moving aircraft. This means passengers no longer need to turn on airplane mode on their smart devices while boarding the plane.

Besides, passengers can use mobile phone calls as well as apps like listening to music and watching videos.

Since 2008, the European Union has been using different frequencies for aircraft. As a result, the frequency of the smart device does not affect the aircraft.

However, the European Commission has not yet said anything about when to implement this directive. But by June 2023, member states have an obligation to roll out 5G technology, mobile networks in their respective countries.

In this regard, Thierry Britton, European Union Commissioner for the Internet Market, said that the sky will not be the limit when it comes to very fast and high-speed communication systems. As a result, people will get creative services and European companies will grow.

Since 2008, airplanes have been providing limited internet service to passengers while in the air. However, passengers are advised to keep the mobile in airplane mode while on board. Because mobile frequency can affect the automatic pilot system of the aircraft. However, the European Union has recently started using a different frequency for aircraft. It does not affect the frequency of the smart device in the aircraft.
